CNC lathes are a foundational asset in precision machining, especially for components that require consistent dimensional control, tight tolerances, and repeatability across varying production runs. At Fabricon, every CNC lathe on the floor is calibrated to deliver consistent performance for complex geometries and challenging materials under demanding production schedules.

CNC Lathe Capabilities in a Production Environment

Fabricon’s CNC lathe operations are configured for high-mix, low- to mid-volume jobs and repeat production runs. Each CNC lathe in our facility supports a diameter range from 0.125 inches up to 26 inches, with the optimal performance range between 0.75 and 8 inches. Our machines are equipped with live tooling and Y-axis movement, allowing for simultaneous turning and milling, cross-hole drilling, and slotting without transferring parts between machines.

These features reduce cumulative tolerancing issues, shorten cycle times, and allow us to maintain process integrity from first-off to final part.

Precision Toolpaths and Process Control

Every CNC lathe program begins with digital modeling and CAM integration. Our team develops toolpaths that optimize surface engagement and material removal while controlling heat and tool wear. Feed rates, spindle speeds, and tool geometries are chosen based on material machinability, part geometry, and surface finish requirements.

Fabricon’s machinists make real-time adjustments during runs to maintain tolerance bands as tight as ±0.0005 inches. Each CNC lathe integrates with in-process inspection protocols and supports data capture for traceability and documentation.

Material Performance and Technical Demands

Fabricon machines a wide range of materials on CNC lathes, including carbon and stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, Inconel, beryllium copper, and plastics. These materials introduce unique challenges such as thermal distortion, work hardening, or chemical reactivity—all of which require specialized tooling strategies.

Coolant delivery systems, insert coatings, and chip evacuation are optimized for each material. When turning materials like aluminum bronze or toughmet, CNC lathe rigidity and spindle stability become critical factors in maintaining dimensional control and surface finish.

Scalability Without Sacrificing Quality

With 40 percent open capacity across our CNC lathe cells, Fabricon offers flexibility to support both urgent, one-off requirements and scalable production schedules. Machines range from 1.5 to 6.5-inch bore capacity with swing diameters up to 26 inches, and production can expand to additional shifts or 24-hour cycles as needed.

Fabricon’s workflow accommodates engineering change orders, prototyping, and revisions without interrupting downstream output or compromising inspection requirements. Each CNC lathe is maintained for optimal uptime and undergoes regular calibration to support these standards.
